Torch Run from Criminal Justice Center to Pearl-Cohn High School, April 17, 2002

Metro Police officers and members of the Metro Police and Tennessee Highway Patrol recruit classes participated in today's Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The law enforcement personnel, which totaled more than 100, ran from police headquarters to Pearl Cohn High School to mark the beginning of the Nashville area Special Olympic games. The Metropolitan Police Department has a long standing commitment to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics, the nation's largest provider of athletic events and sporting activities for mentally challenged children and young adults.

Metro Police Chief Emmett Turner (center) greeted the runners and the Special Olympic athletes.


Chief Turner was the official starter of today's Torch Run.


Several Special Olympic athletes joined their law enforcement friends for a run around the block of the Criminal Justice Center.
