
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 66 arrests involving 64 misdemeanors, one felony and four outstanding warrants. Seized were 1.5 grams of marijuana and 1.8 grams of cocaine.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, six supervisors and 22 patrol officers. Areas targeted were University Court, Lafayette, Lewis, Main, and Trimble Streets, Murfreesboro Pike, Thompson Lane, Fesslers Lane, Bell Road, and Rosa L. Parks Boulevard.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of three SID detectives, five supervisors, 22 patrol officers and two canine officers. Areas targeted were Jefferson Street, Germantown, Rivergate, Madison, and Dickerson Pike.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, three supervisors and four patrol officers. Areas targeted were Harding Place, Woodbine, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, the Cumberland View public housing development, and 28th Avenue North at Buchanan Street.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 341 arrests on 12 felony charges, and 345 misdemeanor charges, two gun seizures, the service of 63 outstanding warrants, 33 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 1,550 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
