This afternoon’s death of 12-week-old Cherokeewolf William Diedrich, who had been hospitalized with a severe head injury since January 9, is being investigated as a homicide by the police department’s Youth Services Division. An autopsy will likely be conducted tomorrow.
Cherokeewolf was born on November 9, 2009, on the streets of Nashville to Kimberlee Diedrich, 35, who is homeless. The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services assumed custody of the child and placed him in foster care.
On the night of January 9, one of the foster parents telephoned 911 to report that the baby was not breathing. He was taken by Metro ambulance from 4637 Cather Court, the home of foster parents Earl and Cheryl Green, to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Cherokeewolf was placed on life support soon after his arrival. He was pronounced dead at 1:49 p.m. today.
No charges have been placed in this case at present. The District Attorney’s Office has been briefed on the continuing investigation.
