FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 11, 2009

The Nashville Police Department is seeking William (Billy) Brown Troope, 50, as a suspect in the murder of his girlfriend who was found dead at 11:20 a.m. inside a room at the Hampton Inn on Coley Davis Road in Bellevue.

Wendy McKinney, 46, of Dickson, suffered trauma to her head area.  Her body was discovered by housekeeping staff in the bathroom of a 3rd floor guestroom.

Troope checked into the hotel, accompanied by McKinney, at 7:40 p.m. Monday using only his first and middle names.  Surveillance footage shows that he left the motel at 11:58 p.m. Monday.  His car returned to the parking lot in the early morning hours of Tuesday, but he apparently did not go back inside.

A relative reported McKinney as a missing person Tuesday.  She was employed by the Publix grocery store on Highway 70.

McKinney had issues with Troope in the past.  He was arrested by Dickson County authorities on August 5th in conjunction with a domestic violence case in which McKinney was the victim.

Troope, who may have fled the Middle Tennessee area, worked for the Golf Club in Cheatham County.  He listed Hart Lane in East Nashville as his address on his state-issued identification card from March of this year.  Troope is believed to be driving a 1994 turquoise Ford Crown Victoria bearing Tennessee license plate 873-TJT.  Anyone seeing him or knowing his whereabouts is urged to immediately contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600 or their local law enforcement agency.
