North Precinct detectives tonight arrested convicted robber Jarrod M. Phillips for the September 8th murder of Tennessee State University Poultry Plant Supervisor Nathaniel Adefope, 60, who was found stabbed and beaten to death inside his workplace.
Phillips, 23, a TSU temporary farm employee, was developed as a possible suspect after detectives learned he received medical treatment for a laceration to his hand on the day of the murder. DNA samples were taken from Phillips. Results of testing by the TBI Crime Laboratory reported to the police department today showed Phillips’ DNA was on Adefope’s body.
Phillips was convicted in July 2008 of robbing an East Nashville Dollar General Store and received a four-year sentence. Records reflect he was placed on probation.
Phillips is being held in the Metro Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.
