Autopsies performed today on Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi show that McNair was shot four times, twice in the head and twice in the chest, and that Kazemi sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. A semi-automatic pistol was discovered at the scene underneath Kazemi’s body. There was no sign of forced entry into the condominium.
It is believed McNair and Kazemi died early Saturday morning, hours before they were discovered on Saturday afternoon.
Detectives have been told that McNair and Kazemi had been in a dating relationship for the past several months.
While it is clear McNair’s death is a homicide, the police department is not classifying Kazemi’s death pending further investigation and interviews with persons who knew her and McNair.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms is assisting the police department in tracing initial purchase and ownership of the pistol. Detectives will be working to interview persons based on information provided by ATF. Detectives will also be following up with staff members from the Blue Moon Lagoon and Losers nightspots, both being places McNair visited Friday night and early Saturday.
