The man killed Monday night when the car in which he was riding crashed into a utility pole on Harding Place in South Nashville is identified as William J. McGuire, 23, of Richmond Hill Drive.
The investigation shows that Samantha Jo Johnson, 22, was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on Harding Place during heavy rain when the car ran off the roadway near Wauford Drive and hit the pole. Neither Johnson nor McGuire was wearing a seatbelt. Both were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where McGuire was pronounced dead.
The tires on the Toyota were extremely worn. Johnson told officers she lost control when the car hydroplaned.
