
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 71 arrests involving 72 misdemeanors, three felonies and nine outstanding warrants. Seized were 8.7 grams of marijuana, one weapon and 70 various pills.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of three SID detectives, four supervisors, 17 patrol officers and three canine officers. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, 39th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, Lafayette Street, Jefferson Street, and 28th Avenue North.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of two SID detectives, four supervisors, 23 patrol officers and one canine officer. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, Delta Avenue, Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, Panorama Drive, County Hospital Road, Whites Creek Pike, Brick Church Pike, Ewing Avenue, Dickerson Pike, Main Street, Shelby Avenue and the James Cayce public housing development.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, three supervisors and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, 24th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard, and Harding Place.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,843 arrests on 167 felony charges, and 1,844 misdemeanor charges, 22 gun seizures, the service of 270 outstanding warrants, 230 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 6,952 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
