
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 60 arrests involving 59 misdemeanors, seven felonies and three outstanding warrants. Seized were 1.1 grams of marijuana and 4.1 grams of cocaine.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, eight supervisors, 18 patrol officers and one canine officer. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Nolensville Pike, Tampa Drive, Harding Place, Linbar Drive, Antioch Pike, Edgehill Avenue, and Glenrose Avenue.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives, six supervisors, one canine officer and 14 patrol officers. Areas targeted were Dickerson Pike at Hart Lane, the 300 block of Trinity Lane, Grace, Lena, Booker, Hancock, Alameda, Spring, Blank, Jackson, Herman, Chestnut, and North 2nd Streets, 16th Avenue North at Ireland Street, the 3900 block of Alabama Avenue, 40th Avenue North at Delaware Avenue, 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, Michigan Avenue, the 2300 block of Merry Street, 2nd Avenue South at Mildred Shute Avenue, and 1st Avenue South at Crenshaw Street.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, two supervisors and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were Madison and Harding Place.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,772 arrests on 164 felony charges, and 1,772 misdemeanor charges, 21 gun seizures, the service of 261 outstanding warrants, 218 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 6,779 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
