
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 70 arrests involving 62 misdemeanors, eight felonies and 31 outstanding warrants. Seized were 1.2 grams of marijuana.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, seven supervisors, two canine officers and 29 patrol officers. Areas targeted were Madison, Metrocenter, Jefferson Street, the James Cayce public housing development, the 1100 block of Litton Avenue, Dickerson Pike, Trinity Lane, South 5th Street, and Shelby Avenue.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of three SID detectives, four supervisors, one canine officer and 16 patrol officers. Areas targeted were the J.C Napier public housing development, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, University Court, 12th Avenue South at Edgehill Avenue, Lafayette Street, Murfreesboro Pike, Elm Hill Pike, Spence Lane, Wallace Road, Linbar Drive, Eisenhower Drive and Paragon Mills Road.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, two supervisors and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, Haywood Lane, Gallatin Pike, and Dickerson Pike.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,610 arrests on 156 felony charges, and 1,615 misdemeanor charges, 21 gun seizures, the service of 230 outstanding warrants, 184 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 6,232 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
