FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 20, 2009

The cab driver killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle collision on Ellington Parkway near the Trinity Lane exit is identified as Hussien M. Ali, 45, of Richards Road in Antioch. He was driving a 2001 Nissan Quest.

The driver of the second vehicle, Tanya McGehee, 38, of E. Palestine Avenue in Madison, was not seriously hurt. She was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The investigation shows that McGehee was traveling north on Ellington Parkway at 8:25 p.m. when she swerved to the left to avoid debris in the roadway (a bag of mulch and pieces of wood). McGehee lost control of her SUV, drove off the left shoulder of Ellington Parkway, crossed the grass median, jumped the guardrail, and struck Ali’s van. It appeared that the Trailblazer was airborne at impact. Ali died at the scene.

Careless driving on the part of McGehee appears to be the contributing factor to the crash, which remains under investigation.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts. There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement.
