
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 74 arrests involving 70 misdemeanors, four felonies and 17 outstanding warrants. Seized were 12.1 grams of marijuana, 24 various pills and one weapon.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, eleven supervisors and 27 patrol officers. Areas targeted were downtown Nashville, Buchanan Street, Chesapeake Drive, the James Cayce public housing development, North 2nd Street, Cleveland Street, the Cheatham Place public housing development, Harding Place, Thompson Lane, Paragon Mills Road, Apache Trail, and Woodbine.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, six supervisors and 19 patrol officers. Areas targeted were the J.C Napier public housing development, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, University Court, and 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, two supervisors, and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were downtown Nashville, the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Murfreesboro Pike, Thompson Lane, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, and Haywood Lane.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,540 arrests on 148 felony charges, and 1,553 misdemeanor charges, 21 gun seizures, the service of 299 outstanding warrants, 168 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge and 5,904 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
