Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 74 arrests involving 77 misdemeanors, two felonies and eleven outstanding warrants. Seized were 21.4 grams of marijuana, one weapon, and $320 cash.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, one SID lieutenant, one SID sergeant, three canine officers, and 27 patrol officers. Areas targeted were 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, Jefferson, Herman, Lafayette, Chestnut, and Booker Streets, University Court, and Harding Place at Nolensville Pike.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, one SID sergeant, two canine officers, and 30 patrol officers. Areas targeted were Old Hickory Boulevard at Gallatin Pike, the 300 block of Rio Vista Drive, the James Cayce public housing development, the 1100 block of Litton Avenue, Trinity Lane, Harding Place, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, Antioch Pike, and Haywood Lane.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives, one SID sergeant, one SID lieutenant, and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were Madison, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, and Haywood Lane.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,244 arrests on 120 felony charges, and 1,272 misdemeanor charges, 18 gun seizures, the service of 229 outstanding warrants, 144 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 4,766 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
