April 1, 2009

The driver of a rental Mazda sedan killed March 26th in a head-on collision on I-65 north of downtown has now been identified through dental records as Jamey Higgens, 31, of Pendleton, Indiana. Higgens’ vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban that was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the interstate. The driver of the Suburban, Mark Word, 41, of Hendersonville, was also killed.

In a separate case, the police department’s Fatal Crash Team has determined that a Chevrolet Trailblazer was the at-fault vehicle in a March 24th head-on collision on I-24 near Old Hickory Boulevard northwest of downtown. The SUV, driven by Johnny Kindle, 45, of Clarksville, collided with a Nissan Altima being driven by Kelly Beard, 33, of Bettendorf, Iowa. Beard was killed. Her husband/passenger, Mark McQuate, 45, was critically injured, as was Kindle. Charges against Kindle are pending the completion of the investigation and toxicology testing.

Officers were unable to immediately determine the at-fault vehicle due to the extreme wreckage.
