FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 26, 2009

A Chevrolet Suburban traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-65 crashed head-on into a Mazda sedan at 2:25 a.m. today, killing both drivers.

The crash occurred just after the Suburban entered I-65 from Vietnam Veterans Parkway. The collision caused both vehicles to become fully engulfed in fire. The drivers, who were the only occupants, were burned beyond recognition.

The driver of the Suburban has been tentatively identified as Mark Word, 41, of Hendersonville. His next-of-kin has been notified.

The Mazda is registered to Enterprise Rent-a-Car. The male driver has not been positively identified. Efforts are underway to contact the Kentucky woman who rented the Mazda.

It has not been determined why the Suburban was traveling the wrong way on the interstate. The medical examiner’s office will test the blood of both drivers for drug and alcohol content.
