Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 16, 2009

Traffic around downtown Nashville will be congested much of St. Patrick’s Day due to the McPaddy Festival on 2nd Avenue, which is expected to attract 2,000 people.

At 10 a.m., 2nd Avenue will be closed at Broadway and Commerce Street will be closed just east of the parking garage entrance near 3rd Avenue. The event begins at 1 p.m. and concludes at 11 p.m. 2nd Avenue and Commerce Street will reopen to traffic in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

Persons celebrating St. Patrick’s Day are strongly encouraged not to drink and drive. Twenty additional officers being paid through a Governor’s Highway Safety Office grant will be watching closely for impaired/intoxicated drivers on area roadways and Interstates. The additional officers will complement the enforcement efforts of the police department’s DUI Unit.
