Officers investigating the fatal hit-and-run collision that killed pedestrian James Thomas Hamsley one week ago tonight near the K-Mart on South Gallatin Pike have determined that the vehicle involved was an early 1990s model Buick Century. Based on debris and other evidence recovered at the scene, the car should be missing the right front headlight, a parking light lens, and an antenna. The Buick is also believed to have significant damage to the passenger side windshield.
Hamsley, 67, was killed at 11:17 p.m. on March 4th, a short time after returning from a gambling trip to New Albany, Indiana. The casino bus dropped him off in the K-Mart parking lot at 1516 South Gallatin Pike. He walked to a nearby MTA bus stop and was struck while in the roadway. The driver fled.
Anyone seeing the involved Buick Century or having any information about it is asked to contact the police department’s Fatal Crash Team at 862-7738 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
