The man arrested for Tuesday afternoon’s armed robbery of Wachovia Bank’s 4740 Lebanon Pike branch is expected to be charged with three additional bank robberies.

Investigation by officers and agents assigned to the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force has linked Fred Bates, 56, to robberies at Wilson Bank & Trust’s 4736 Andrew Jackson Parkway branch in September and December of 2007, and the robbery of SunTrust Bank’s 15375 Lebanon Pike branch in Mt. Juliet last December.

Bates, of Tulip Grove Road, was arrested by Hermitage Precinct Officer Ricky Martin Tuesday afternoon as he attempted to flee from the Wachovia robbery through the parking lot of Oakwood Commons shopping center. Bates remains in federal custody.
