
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 56 arrests involving 57 misdemeanors, two felonies, and 21 outstanding warrants. Seized were 15.9 grams of marijuana, 14 various pills, and one weapon.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, 16 patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, Clarksville Pike, 8th Avenue North at Garfield Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard at Jefferson Street, the J.C. Napier public housing development, the Cheatham Place public housing development, the Cumberland View public housing development, Clay Street, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, the Salemtown area, and Lewis Street.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives, 20 patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, Harding Place, the 1500 block of Porter Road, the Cheatham Place public housing development, Gallatin Pike, Madison Park, Old Hickory Boulevard, 6th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, Murfreesboro Pike, Clarksville Pike, Thompson Lane, the Bordeaux area, and Jefferson Street.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, the Cumberland View public housing development, the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, and Harding Place.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,197 arrests on 134 felony charges and 1,250 misdemeanor charges, 160 drug seizures, 15 gun seizures, the service of 221 outstanding warrants, 223 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 3,373 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
