FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 29, 2008

Swifty Oil Company this afternoon posted a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the men responsible for Monday night’s murder of employee Marcus Anthony McGee outside the company’s 3720 Dickerson Pike location. McGee, 19, of Lock Road, had been employed by the company for just a few weeks.

Surveillance video shows two hooded individuals, at least one of them armed with a pistol, wait for McGee to come out of the store at the 10 p.m. closing time. When McGee exited, he was forced back inside. The suspects, it appears, wanted McGee to open a safe. One of the suspects then disabled the surveillance camera inside the store.

It is not known at present whether McGee was shot inside the store or while fleeing. He was found lying on Dickerson Pike just south of the gas station in what a passerby initially believed was a hit-and-run traffic collision. McGee was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Detectives believe the two suspects fled in a getaway car parked nearby. From all indications, the two knew when the gas station closed and made plans to jump McGee when he exited the building.

Anyone with information about this robbery or the suspects, one of whom appears to be a light-skinned black man approximately 6’5” tall, is urged to contact North Precinct Investigations at 862-7901 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Crime Stoppers is offering an additional $1,000 in reward money. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and still receive the reward.
