Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 63 arrest actions involving three felonies, 64 misdemeanors, and 13 outstanding warrants. Seized were 11.5 grams of cocaine and 44 grams of marijuana.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts, the Specialized Investigations Division (SID), and the Investigative Services Bureau (ISB) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in a variety of neighborhoods.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, 24 ISB detectives, 2 patrol officers, one bomb squad officer, and one canine team. Among the areas targeted were Gallatin Pike, Eastland Avenue, Shelby Avenue, Main Street, Buchanan Street, Clay Street, Dr. D.B.Todd Boulevard, Jefferson Street, Monroe Street, J.C. Napier Public Housing, and Tampa Drive.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, 15 ISB detectives, six patrol officers, and one canine unit. Among the areas targeted were 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, 16th Avenue North near Ireland Street, University Court, Harding Place near I-24, Nolensville Pike, the Paragon Mills area, Jefferson Street, Buchanan Street, Clarksville Pike, Main Street, Gallatin Pike, and Murfreesboro Pike at Thompson Lane.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and six patrol officers. Among the areas targeted were Madison, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, and Haywood Lane.

Thus far in 2008, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,174 arrest actions on 134 felony and 1,223 misdemeanor charges. There have been 155 drug seizures and 14 gun confiscations. Officers have made 2,062 citizen contacts and 3,425 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
