Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 70 arrests involving 74 misdemeanors, four felonies, and 13 outstanding warrants. Seized were five grams of cocaine, 8.3 grams of marijuana, and four weapons.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, 26 patrol officers, and three canine units. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, Clarksville Pike, 6th Avenue North at Garfield Street, 11th Avenue North at Jefferson Street, the James Cayce public housing development, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Lafayette Street, Murfreesboro Pike, the Madison area, the Bordeaux area, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, Haywood Lane, and Apache Trail.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, one Office of Professional Accountability lieutenant, 21 patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Trimble Bottoms, Harding Place at I-24, the Cheatham Place public housing development, Main Street, the James Cayce public housing development, Gallatin Pike, and Edgehill Avenue.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Edgehill public housing development, Harding Place, and 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,072 arrests on 124 felony charges and 1,125 misdemeanor charges, 146 drug seizures, 14 gun seizures, the service of 187 outstanding warrants, 206 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,878 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
