Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 81 arrests involving 75 misdemeanors, 12 felonies, and 26 outstanding warrants. Seized were 4.4 grams of cocaine, 33 grams of marijuana, and $345 cash.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of ten SID detectives, 22 patrol officers, and four canine units. Areas targeted were the 300 block of Trinity Lane, the 2400 block of Buena Vista Pike, the 2700 block of Whites Creek Pike, the 3200 block of Brick Church Pike, 16th Avenue North at Ireland Street, Nolensville Pike, Edgehill Avenue, the Madison area, Main Street, Gallatin Pike, and the James Cayce public housing development.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and 27 patrol officers. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Edgehill Avenue, 8th Avenue South at Wedgewood Avenue, 28th Avenue North, Clifton Avenue, Lafayette Street, Antioch Pike, Bell Road, Nolensville Pike, Jefferson Street, Clarksville Pike, the Bordeaux area, the downtown Nashville area, and the Cheatham Place public housing development.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Madison area, Harding Place at I-24, and Nolensville Pike.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,002 arrests on 120 felony charges and 1,052 misdemeanor charges, 133 drug seizures, ten gun seizures, the service of 174 outstanding warrants, 180 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,671 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
