Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 74 arrests involving 77 misdemeanors, six felonies, and 12 outstanding warrants. Seized were 125 grams of marijuana, five Ecstasy pills, and $7,777 cash.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives, 24 patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the 3200 block of Panorama Drive, Gallatin Pike, Old Hickory Boulevard, Myatt Drive, Neeleys Bend, Collins Park Drive, the Hickory Hollow Mall area, Nolensville Pike, Harding place, the James Cayce public housing development, Main Street, Lafayette Street, University Court, Fesslers Lane, Murfreesboro Pike, Edmondson Pike, Tusculum Road, Bell Road, Booker Street, Clifton Avenue, and 28th Avenue North.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, 18 patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, Lafayette Street, Trimble Bottoms, Harding Place, Antioch Pike at Richards Road, Haywood Lane, Nolensville Pike, the Edgehill public housing development, 12th Avenue South, Apache Trail, the Madison area, Buchanan Street, Jefferson Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard, Dr. Walter S. Davis Boulevard, John A. Merritt Boulevard, Ed Temple Boulevard, and downtown Nashville.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Gallatin Pike at Old Hickory Boulevard, Madison Park, Nolensville Pike, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, and Harding Place.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 920 arrests on 108 felony charges and 977 misdemeanor charges, 122 drug seizures, ten gun seizures, the service of 148 outstanding warrants, 173 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,449 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
