Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date, 2008

East Precinct officers today arrested two men for stealing a catalytic converter from a parked car on Dew Street.

When Officers Leon Taylor, Troy Smith, and Brian Williams drove up, Tyrone Springer, 51, of Bell Road, and Mickey Ladewig, 53, of Emmitt Avenue, were beside a jacked up Honda. Springer gave officers permission to check the Toyota he had driven to the scene. Inside the trunk were cement blocks, a saw, and a freshly cut Honda catalytic converter. Catalytic converters are attractive to thieves because of the small amount of precious metals they contain.

Springer, who has convictions for several crimes including car burglary, and who has been charged by Metro police with 135 offenses since 1976, is being held in lieu of $5,000 bond. Ladewig, who was convicted of theft just last month, is also being held in lieu of $5,000 bond.
