East Precinct detectives are working to locate robbery suspect Kanaloa Smothers, 18, of Fatherland Street. Smothers has been identified as the man involved in two separate armed robberies last week.

On Thursday, Smothers and Stanley Tobitt II, 19, of Chapel Avenue, robbed a man at gunpoint at 11:30 p.m. The victim knew Smothers and Tobitt. He was riding in Tobitt’s Chevrolet Caprice when they pulled over at a car wash and demanded the victim’s cash and credit cards. He complied.

Tobitt was arrested early Friday morning. He admitted to the robbery and identified Smothers as his accomplice. Tobitt is charged with three counts of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery. He is being held in lieu of $80,000 bond.

Smothers continued his robbery spree Friday. He entered a man’s home on South 13th Street at 9 a.m. The victim, an acquaintance of Smothers, was beaten and robbed at gunpoint. In addition to stealing cash, Smothers also took the victim’s pistol and shotgun.

Warrants have been issued charging Smothers with aggravated robbery, robbery, and crooks with guns.
