Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 7, 2008

An investigation by Hermitage Precinct Crime Suppression Unit detectives led to Thursday’s arrest of two men and the seizure of 2.68 pounds of crystal methamphetamine worth an estimated $320,000 dollars.

James Christy, 37, an employee at the Super 8 Motel on Royal Parkway, admitted he opened a Fed Ex package containing the meth during his shift on Tuesday.  Christy took the package home with him.  The motel manager called Christy Wednesday to tell him another man had called about the package and was very upset it was missing.  Christy told his employer he had opened the mailer and that it contained a large quantity of methamphetamine.  The motel’s management immediately contacted police.

CSU detectives arrested Kevin Darel Ackerman, 36, of Oakland, California, after he picked up the Fed Ex package at the motel.  Ackerman said he had flown to Nashville from California to pick up the meth with plans to sell the drug locally before returning to California.

Christy and Ackerman are both charged with possession of methamphetamine for resale.

Christy is jailed on $250,000 bond.  His arrest history reflects convictions for drug possession, theft, and aggravated assault.  Detectives at this time do not believe he was involved in the overall drug scheme.

Ackerman does not have a local arrest history.  He is being held on $125,000 bond.
