February 15, 2008

East Precinct officers arrested a convicted felon shortly after he stabbed an elderly man during a burglary early today.

Jerry Clemmons, 36, is accused of entering a Rosebank Avenue residence through a kitchen window at 4:30 a.m. A 77-year-old man and his 70-year-old wife reported Clemmons confronted them in their bedroom and demanded money. The elderly man struggled with Clemmons and was stabbed once in his side. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Clemmons fled on foot to his nearby residence in the 2600 block of Carter Avenue where he was arrested. Clemmons told investigators he knocked on the elderly couple’s door to ask for money.

Clemmons is charged with especially aggravated burglary and is being held in lieu of $100,000 dollars bond. His arrest history reflects 61 prior offenses. He was convicted of aggravated assault in 2006.
