FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 14, 2008

North Precinct detectives have now determined that a man arrested a week ago today for an apartment burglary is responsible for a dozen Madison business break-ins and nine burglaries of Madison apartment homes.

Michael D. Robinson, 32, of Doverside Drive, is presently charged with burglarizing an apartment in the Brinkhaven complex on December 31. He was arrested after being identified as the man who, on the same day, pawned a flat screen television and a DVD player at a pawnshop about two blocks from the apartment complex.

Over the past week, Robinson has cooperated with detectives and admits to burglarizing:

Robinson entered the businesses primarily by smashing windows. He would look for cash and quickly flee. He entered the apartments by kicking in doors and would look for valuables he could easily take away. He used the money to buy crack cocaine. He would sell the stolen items for cash or trade them for crack.

“Michael Robinson was a tremendous burden on the business owners and residents of Madison,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “Officers and detectives, especially lead investigators Carney White, Sr., and Carney White, Jr., put in a tremendous amount of work over the past month to identify Robinson and get him off our streets.”

Robinson is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond on one burglary charge. Additional charges will be sought from the grand jury.
