The man who died after he drove his van into a pond at the intersection of Devon Valley Drive and Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue is identified as Marcus Covington, 32, of Flicker Drive.
Covington was driving his 1995 GMC van northbound on Old Hickory Boulevard when he left the roadway, struck an embankment, and ran into the pond at 11 a.m. Witnesses report Covington was traveling at a high rate of speed before the accident.
Covington, the only occupant, managed to escape his van, but could not swim to safety. Rescue attempts were made by a citizen, paramedic, and police officer. Nashville Fire and Office of Emergency Management personnel recovered Covington’s body at 1:30 p.m.
