FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 1, 2008

A 40-year-old father is now officially a co-defendant of his two teenage sons in the January 21st shooting death of Billy Jack Shane Tuders outside a carwash on Clarksville Pike.

The Davidson County Grand Jury today returned an indictment charging Kevin Buford, Sr., with felony murder. North Precinct officers this afternoon arrested Buford, himself a convicted armed robber, without incident at his 1538 Neelys Bend Road home. A Criminal Court judge has ordered that he be held in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Buford’s two sons, Kevin, Jr., 16, and DeAngelo, 17, are behind bars at Juvenile Court on charges of criminal homicide and especially aggravated attempted robbery, as is their friend, Raymond Pirtle, 17. Kevin Buford, Jr., and Pirtle were charged on January 22nd. DeAngelo Buford was arrested yesterday. Prosecutors are working to transfer the cases against the juveniles to adult court.

Tuders, 33, of Dickerson Pike, had just left a market on Clarksville Pike and walked to a carwash next door when he was approached by the teenagers during a robbery attempt. Tuders struggled to escape his assailants and was shot in the back as he tried to run. The investigation shows that after the shooting, the suspects ran across the street to Kevin Buford, Sr.’s Ford Explorer, and that he drove them away from the scene.

Detectives believe that Kevin Buford, Sr.’s brother, Robert Buford, III, 38, (the uncle of Kevin, Jr., and DeAngelo) was also in the Explorer. Robert Buford is being sought in connection with this case. Anyone seeing him or knowing his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
