Foul play is not suspected in Monday’s death of an elderly Donelson woman, who appeared to have fallen into a pile of burning leaves on her property.
The victim is believed to be Lillian Massey, 84. Because of the extensive thermal injuries, dental records will be needed to positively confirm her identity.
Police were called to Massey’s Downeymeade Drive home at 8:50 p.m. Monday after a neighbor discovered the body. Massey’s daughter, who had not heard from her mother during the day, asked the neighbor to check on her welfare.
It appeared that Massey had been burning leaves along a fence row much of the day Monday. Detectives believe she fell down a small embankment into the fire and was unable to recover.
Massey lived alone. Despite mobility issues associated with her age, relatives said Massey still liked to do many things for herself, including yard work.
