Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 2, 2008

Detectives investigating the break-in at the Metro Election Commission’s 2nd Avenue office believe the thief or thieves were in the building at 9:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Electronic records reflect that an operational computer router stolen in the burglary went off line at that time. Entry to the building was made by shattering a window with a large rock. A few spots of blood, indicating that a suspect may have been cut during entry, were found in the building. A sample was collected and will be analyzed.

Efforts continue to identify the suspect(s) and recover two Dell Latitude laptop computers, a digital camera and the router taken during the burglary. Detectives have been in contact with pawnshops and other potential locations for fencing stolen property. Downtown social service agencies have also been asked to be mindful of the burglary in the event a transient person reports having knowledge of it or comes into contact with the stolen computer equipment.

Anyone with information about the burglary or the stolen merchandise is urged to contact Central Precinct Investigations at 862-7044 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
