A pedestrian was fatally injured early Friday morning when he was struck by a car on Church Street at Center Street near the Hopewell community. Mitchell Agee, 39, of Elkins Avenue, was struck by the driver of a Dodge Magnum, Howard Royce Wisenbaker, 54, of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, sometime after Agee left his home on foot at 12:30 a.m.
Wisenbaker called a woman to help him move his car, but when she arrived and saw Agee’s body trapped beneath the Dodge, she phoned police at 2:30 a.m.
Wisenbaker is charged with vehicular homicide and is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond. He appeared intoxicated, refused a field sobriety test, and admitted to drinking beer earlier in the evening. Toxicology results are pending.
