The woman killed in a two-car collision early Wednesday morning on Rosa L. Parks Boulevard at the I-65 exit is identified as Anita Crawford, 40, of Burns Street. She was the front seat passenger in a 2005 Dodge Neon involved in the 5:30 a.m. crash.
Police are working to identify the driver described only as a black man wearing a jacket who fled on foot toward Dominican Drive immediately after the accident. Anyone with information concerning the driver is urged to contact Crash Investigation Unit Officer Greg Curtis at 862-7738.
A preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Dodge was entering Rosa L. Parks Boulevard from the I-65 South ramp, ran a flashing red light, and struck a northbound 1998 gold Infinity driven by Bennett Baldwin, 64, of Collins Road, at 5:30 a.m.
Anita Crawford was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.
Baldwin was transported to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Evidence of alcohol was found inside the Neon.
