
The Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative reached a milestone 2,000th arrest for the year on Friday. So far this year, the initiative has led to 2,040 arrests involving 2,262 misdemeanors, 366 felony charges, and 365 outstanding warrants.
Last weekend’s initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 51 arrests involving five felonies, 68 misdemeanors, and three outstanding warrants. Seized were 5.8 grams of marijuana, 1.8 grams of cocaine, and one weapon.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of 12 SID detectives, six patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were University Court, Trimble Bottoms, Edgehill Avenue, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Paragon Mills Road, and Antioch Pike.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of eleven SID detectives, four patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were the Madison area, Harding Place, Linbar Drive, Nolensville Pike, Old Hickory Boulevard, Antioch Pike, Richards Road, and the Hickory Hollow Mall area.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Murfreesboro Pike, Thompson Place, Gallatin Avenue, Main Street, North 1st Street, and Dickerson Pike.
