Metro police officers, including those working extra duty through a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on Friday and Saturday nights of this week in the vicinity of Harding Place in south Nashville, Murfreesboro Pike, and Old Hickory Boulevard near Lakewood between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. During those same hours, sobriety checkpoints will take place in the Dickerson Pike/West Campbell Street area in a joint effort with the Goodlettsville Police Department.
In 2006, nearly half of all fatal crashes in Davidson County were caused by impaired drivers. The police department conducts sobriety checkpoints as an enforcement tool to identify and arrest intoxicated and/or impaired drivers which is a matter of significant public concern. Other sobriety checkpoints will be conducted in the coming weeks.
