FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 23, 2007

The man killed in this morning’s fiery collision between his black Pontiac Grand Prix and a tractor-trailer rig on I-24 west near Haywood Lane was burned beyond recognition and has yet to be identified. The intense heat from the fire melted VIN decals on the car, adding to the difficulty in identifying the victim.

The crash occurred at 4:20 a.m. when the Grand Prix, which was traveling at a very high rate of speed, collided with the rear of the semi-trailer. The Grand Prix then veered to the left and struck the concrete median wall. The car quickly caught fire. Passersby were unable to free the driver.

An examination of the body shows that the deceased driver is African American. He had gold caps on his lower teeth. Each gold cap contained a different design. There were several playing card symbols (including an ace, heart, spade, and diamond) as well as an exclamation point.

Anyone knowing a man with such custom dental work who drove a late model black Pontiac Grand Prix is urged to contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600 or the police department’s Fatal Crash Unit at 862-7738.
