Three people died in a two-car collision Wednesday afternoon at 5201 Franklin Pike.
Vurble Jones, 20, of 14th Avenue North, was driving his Nissan Altima north bound on Franklin Pike when he crossed the center line and collided with a south bound Hundai Sonata, driven by Dan Scherrer, 55, of Overland Park, Kansas, at 1:20 p.m.
Jones passenger, his sister, Tanya Jones, 31, of 14th Avenue North, was thrown from the car and died at the scene.
Scherrer’s passenger, his brother-in-law, Paul Clepper, 48, of 2nd Avenue South, also died at the scene.
Both drivers were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Jones died. Scherrer, who was wearing a seatbelt, is expected to survive his injuries.
The three victims were not wearing their seat belts.
The contributing factor to this fatal crash appears to be Vurble Jones’ failure to maintain his car in the proper lane.
