Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 19, 2007

A domestic argument appears to be a contributing factor in a single-vehicle accident Sunday night on Ellington Parkway that claimed the life of a woman and critically injured three others. All seven occupants were ejected from the SUV. No one was wearing a seat belt.

Shelia Williams, 32, of Wesley Drive, was driving her Chevrolet Suburban south on Ellington Parkway near Hart Lane when her boyfriend and front seat passenger, Derrick Grisham, 25, of Sennadale Lane, received a phone call from a female friend. Grisham reported that Williams became upset and tried to grab the cell phone. He said during the ensuing struggle, Williams lost control of the SUV which veered to the right, before she overcorrected to the left, causing the Suburban to roll over on Ellington Parkway at 10:30 p.m.

Williams died at the scene. The six passengers were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Grisham and Deandre Williams, 17, were treated and released. Dejaun Williams, 10, Rushun Williams, 6, and Renesha Williams, 12, are in critical, but stable condition. Laquin Davis, 17, is in stable condition. All five children also reside on Wesley drive.

There was no evidence of alcohol involvement or excessive speed at the scene.
