East Precinct detectives this morning charged a Joelton woman with criminal homicide in connection with Tuesday afternoon’s fatal shooting of Jarrod Collins outside Last Chance Liquor Store at 839 Dickerson Pike.
Brandy Lea Birdwell, 25, of 5838 Clarksville Pike, admitted to being the driver of the white pickup truck who brought Collins’ killer and at least one other accomplice to the store. After Collins was shot in an apparent robbery attempt, the gunman and another male suspect jumped into the bed of the pickup truck and Birdwell sped off.
Key witness information, which included the partial license plate of the truck, led to Birdwell’s arrest. The 1999 Ford Ranger is registered to Birdwell’s mother. Detectives and SWAT officers assigned to the Special Response Team went to the Birdwell home late Wednesday and took her into custody.
Detectives continue in their efforts to locate the gunman and at least one other accomplice. Leads developed late Wednesday and early today continue to advance the investigation.
