FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 1, 2007

The owner of Kustom Kars was shot in the leg today during a robbery inside his business at 210 South Gallatin Pike.

Just before noon, the suspect entered the store and confronted Nelson Striplin, 29, of Archwood Place. Striplin was shot after a brief struggle.

A witness saw the suspect get into a white Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable. He is described as a young black man, approximately 6’2” tall who was wearing baggy blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt with white writing on the back. A bandanna covered his face.

The robbery does not appear to be random.

Striplin was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. His arrest history reflects charges for aggravated assault and unlawful weapon possession. In August, he was arrested for prescription fraud involving Oxycontin.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to contact North Precinct detectives at 862-7901 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
