FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 25, 2007

Intuitive police work early today by Central Precinct Officer Jonathan Mays led to the arrest of Barry Dewayne White for burglarizing Cardwell’s Market on Hermitage Avenue.

At 4:50 a.m., Mays responded to a report of a burglary in progress on Lea Avenue. He found White standing in the doorway of a residence with the storm door open. As White was being detained for investigation, several coin rolls fell out of his pants. He was also carrying packs of cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco.

Officer Mays suspected that the items might have come from nearby Cardwell’s Market and had another officer check the store. The front window had indeed been smashed. White subsequently admitted that he was responsible for breaking the glass and stealing items from the market.

He is charged with burglary and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
