Two men will appear on the jail docket Friday on attempted robbery charges for trying to snatch a woman’s purse in the parking lot of the Neighborhood Wal-Mart Store at 109 North Gallatin Pike in Madison.
The 22-year-old victim was attempting to get her child out of the car at 8:30 p.m. Monday when a man identified as Lorenzo Romell Brown approached, threw her to the pavement, and attempted to take her purse. The victim held on, and Brown was forced to flee empty handed in a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by a man later identified as James Thomas Sawyers. The victim suffered an injury to her finger by maintaining control of her purse.
North Precinct undercover detectives located the car less than an hour later at a nearby Sonic. Brown, 20, of Spring Branch Drive in Madison, and Sawyers, 23, of Tuckahoe Drive, were taken into custody. The victim and witnesses at Wal-Mart positively identified the pair as taking part in the attempted robbery.
Brown and Sawyers are also charged with cocaine and marijuana possession after officers found 1.4 grams of cocaine and a bag of marijuana in the Taurus.
Brown is being held in lieu of $120,000 bond. Sawyers is being held in lieu of $135,000 bond.
