Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 12, 2007

A Davidson County grand jury today indicted three defendants, including Williamson County Sheriff Ricky Headley, in the joint Metro Police and TBI investigation into Brooks Pharmacy from earlier this year. The three are accused of illegally obtaining prescription drugs and have been charged with numerous felonies and misdemeanors.

Headley, 43, has been indicted on 17 counts of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Class D felonies, 12 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class A misdemeanors, 3 counts of Unlawful Distribution of Legend Drugs, Class C misdemeanors, and 1 count of Possession of a Legend Drug without a Prescription, a Class C misdemeanor. The charges stem from a two-year investigation into Brooks Pharmacy, 4701 Trousdale Drive, which resulted in Headley being arrested for illegally obtaining nearly 2,000 doses of the prescription drugs Hydrocodone, Soma, and Cataflam between October 2006 and January of 2007. Headley was arrested January 31, 2007. The matter was sent for grand jury consideration after a preliminary hearing in April. Headley’s $7,000 bond is unchanged from his January arrest. It is expected that Criminal Court Judge Steve Dozier will arraign Headley in the coming weeks on the Davidson County indictment. A Williamson County grand jury indicted Headley earlier this week on four counts of Official Misconduct.

Also indicted in this case is Charles Burton, 57, of Smyrna. He is charged with five counts of Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance, Class D felonies, and 5 counts of Possession of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class A misdemeanors, for obtaining Hydrocodone and Darvocet from Brooks Pharmacy. Burton retired in 1998 as an inspector for the pharmacy board. His $5,000 bond is unchanged from his January arrest.

Helen Michelle Weathers, 32, a former employee of Brooks Pharmacy, has been indicted three counts: Obtaining Hydrocodone by Fraud, a Class D felony, Identity Theft, a Class D felony, and Possession of Hydrocodone with Intent to Distribute, a Class D felony. Weathers will also remain free on bond.

The case against pharmacy owner Glenn Brooks is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s office.
