Outstanding police work by South Precinct Officer Chris Bowden led to this morning’s arrest of serial bank robbery suspect Romonte Phillips less than ten minutes after Phillips held up AmSouth’s 2511 Nolensville Pike branch.
Phillips, 33, of Jones View Drive, approached the teller at 9:56 a.m., passed a robbery note, and implied that he had a weapon. The teller complied with Phillips’ demand for cash. He then fled the bank in a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina. The driver of the getaway car says he was unaware Phillips had robbed the bank.
Officer Bowden heard the robbery call dispatched and began looking for the Lumina. He spotted it on Nolensville Pike at Antioch Pike. The driver pulled over and Phillips was taken into custody.
Phillips admitted his involvement in today’s robbery and to three others, including the Regions Bank branch at 4241 Harding Place on September 24, the Regions branch at 5200 Charlotte Pike on September 28, and the Renasant Bank branch at 1820 West End Avenue on October 5.
The FBI Violent Crimes Task Force is charging Phillips federally with four counts of bank robbery.
