North Precinct detectives are working to identify the man who brutally attacked and robbed Nashville community leader Francis Guess outside his Hydes Ferry Road home Monday night.
The robber struck Guess, 61, on the head with a lawnmower blade at 10:45 p.m., moments after Guess pulled into his driveway and got out of his car. The suspect demanded Guess’ wallet. Guess threw his money at the robber, after which he again struck Guess on the head with the mower blade and fled the scene.
Guess, who was bleeding significantly, made it inside his home and called 911. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment and remains there in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a young black man who wore dark clothing and a bandana or rag on his head.
Anyone with information about the robber or his identity is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
