FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 5, 2007

Fatal Crash investigators believe the two-car collision that killed both drivers September 28, in the 2300 block of Hobson Pike, was caused by the failure of Joel Morales, 50, of Murfreesboro Pike, to maintain proper lane control.

A witness reported Morales was traveling south on Hobson Pike when his 1996 Honda Civic crossed over into the northbound lane and collided head on with the driver of a Saturn, Kelvin Stephens, 46, of Carla Court. Morales died at the scene of the 5 p.m. crash. Stephens was transported to Southern Hills Medical Center where he died later that evening.

Morales, a Mexican national driving without a license, was not wearing his seatbelt. It is unknown if Stephens was restrained.
