
Investigation by the Illinois State Police and East Precinct detectives has determined that a man found beaten to death September 2 on the side of a rural highway near Monmouth, Illinois, received the fatal blows in Nashville.
The victim is identified as Marvin Davis, 41, of Holly Street.
On September 28, Illinois State Police arrested David Nelson McCoy, 41, of Forest City, North Carolina, and charged him with Davis’ murder. McCoy is an over-the-road truck driver.
The investigation reveals that Davis and McCoy were together at the Pilot Truck Stop in East Nashville late August 31 or early September 1. They got into an altercation and an object was used to beat Davis’ head. McCoy has given investigators a statement implicating himself in the homicide.
The prosecution of McCoy will be transferred from Illinois to Nashville in the coming weeks.
