
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, resulted in 47 arrests involving two felonies, 51 misdemeanors, and five outstanding warrants. Seized were 17.5 grams of marijuana and 3.5 grams of cocaine.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, six patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the Madison area, the Cheatham Place public housing development, 11th Avenue North at Jefferson Street, 5th Avenue North at Garfield Street, Buchanan Street, 12th Avenue South at Acklen Avenue, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, Paragon Mills Road, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Bell Road, and Apache Trail.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives, six patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were Nolensville Pike at Old Hickory Boulevard and Harding Place, Tampa Drive, University Court, 16th Avenue South at Wedgewood Avenue, and the Edgehill Avenue area.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives and four patrol officers. Areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, Harding Place, the Edgehill Avenue area, Archer Street, 12th Avenue South at Wedgewood Avenue, Apache Trail, and the 300 block of Bell Road.
So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,490 arrests involving 1,636 misdemeanor charges, 275 felony charges, and 283 outstanding warrants.
